My Review
Avalon Sky is my first book by Jill Todd. It is also the second book in The Pevensey Files series. I didn’t realise this at first and hoped I wouldn’t end up in the middle of a story I couldn’t understand. I didn’t need to worry, as it was such an easy read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A thriller set in rural Somerset, where Kit Pevensey and his wife go to have a bit of peace while compiling a village history for a friend. Just when they think they can relax, their friend disappears without a trace, and their research begins to stir memories of secrets that are deadly! The respite they crave is suddenly ebbing away as a killer plans murder and Kit has his own demons while attempting to stop a family being torn apart.
I want to know how I have missed Jill Todd’s books! I do adore a crime thriller, and this one has all the ingredients I need for a fantastic read. She has woven a tale which kept me gripped. It is multi-layered and has plenty of secrets rising to the surface. Ones from long ago which have the ‘butterfly effect’ through the years. It is written at a pace which kept me so immersed.
The characters are fleshed out so well, with believable personalities and motivations that are so true to life! I easily invested in Kit, especially. Jill Todd certainly knows how to create tension and plenty of it. That along with the action throughout makes it a read I would recommend to any crime thriller reader!

Author Bio
Jill Todd was born in Eastleigh, Hampshire. Her parents taught her to read and write at an early age, to occupy her during a long illness, and she has been writing stories ever since.
After completing a historical novel, published in 1988, she rediscovered a social life, married and had a family. Whilst working as an Admin Assistant at a local secondary school, she continued to write as a hobby.
Her romance thriller, Echo of Bells, was published in 2016 and became the origin story for Avalon Sky. Since retiring in 2023, she has been able to write full-time, and plans to make Avalon Sky the first in a series of crime thrillers featuring Kit and Lissa Pevensey.
In 2001, Jill’s husband and four fellow pilots won a microlight aircraft kit in a magazine competition. The build took three years, and the little plane (or a fifth share of it) became part of the family, which inspired one aspect of the plot of Avalon Sky. Holidays in Somerset and on Lundy Island supplied more material, and the island is one of Jill’s favourite places.
