Wes Markin – The Graveyard Killings (The Yorkshire Murders Book 4)

Today, I’m so happy to say I have my review of Wes Markin’s latest book. I must thank Wes Markin himself for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A decades old case….

When the body of a young girl is found exhumed from her grave, DCI Emma Gardner knows there’s more to this grisly find than just misadventure. Penny Maiden was killed in a hit and run accident forty years ago, and her killer was never found…Could someone be trying to right an old wrong?

A DI on the rails…

Determined to bring a dangerous gang of drug dealers to justice, DI Paul Riddick is trying hard to play by the rules. After his previous reckless actions, he knows this is his last chance to stay in the job he loves. But when his private life takes an unexpected turn, Riddick begins to lose control again.

Emma needs Paul to help her with her case, especially when more bodies are found in the same graveyard. But hurt badly by Riddick once before, Emma’s not sure she can trust him again.

But as Paul’s behaviour begins to spiral even more, Emma worries she may have left it far too late to save her old friend Riddick from his own destruction…

Wes Markin always manages to stun me with his writing. I tend to think that his latest book is the best until he releases another one. I have read an awful lot of his books, and he still manages to bring original ideas and great characters.

This latest instalment, The Graveyard Killings, is Wes Markin doing what he does best, writing multiple plots and interweaving them so expertly that the reader has no clue whats coming next.

It’s a series that is fully appreciated by beginning at book one, The Viaduct Killings. Every character is created perfectly. None are perfect, and all have flaws. Some are more apparent than others. let’s just say the name DI Riddick. truly flawed but a character you still get invested in and wish things could go his way for once. I find myself actually wanting to give this man a hug from time to time as he lurches from one disaster to another! That’s how real the characters feel.

The plot well, all I will say is DCI Emma Gardner, again, has her hands full and needs DI Riddicks’ help. I read this book so fast and really couldn’t put it down. The number of twists and turns puts spaghetti junction on the M6 to shame!

With Wes Markin, I always read his books without reading the blurb, I don’t need to. I know his books are sublime. To me, he is a master storyteller, but I do wonder what goes on in his head, to have the ability to write the dark plots, he does so well.

Another book packed with action, intrigue, tension, and so much suspense. I am so looking forward to his next book!
