Welcome back to the blog! I’m super excited to bring my stop on the blog tour for Death At Castle Cove by Mary Grand. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the copy of the book to take part.

Island life suits Susan, and she can’t imagine ever moving from her beloved Isle of Wight. So it gives her real pleasure to see her young lodger Colette settle in to life by the sea, especially knowing that she has such a troubled past.

Susan’s days are comfortingly routine, starting every morning by exercising her beloved Rocco on Ventnor beach with her fellow dog walkers. The group may have bonded over their fondness for their canine companions, but over time their friendships have deepened.

So, when Colette dies in suspicious circumstances at Castle Cove, Susan is devastated to realise that the dog walking group were the last to see Colette alive, and one of her friends must have been responsible for her death.

And when Susan begins to suspect that the police are minded to put Colette’s death down to an accident, Susan decides she won’t rest until she solves the mystery and finds the murderer.

Death At Castle Cove is the start of a new series by Mary Grand. I have read all the books she has written and when I saw there was a new book coming I had to read it.

Set on the Isle Of Wight, which Mary Grand describes so vividly that it springs to life as you read. This is a thrilling murder mystery that introduces a fabulous set of characters. I felt like I was with Susan as she dug into the circumstances surrounding her young lodger, Colette’s death. I did like how tenacious Susan was. No matter who told her to stop digging, she just kept on going. I do have to admit, she placed herself in danger at times, and I was really hoping she would come through it unscathed.

Mary Grand writes such atmospheric stories, and this one is no exception. It’s one heck of a twisty investigation that has enough red herrings to send me up plenty of dead ends with my guesses. As I always find with this author, I was turning the pages so fast, my kindle almost broke! Well, OK, I am exaggerating, but you get the idea.

With likeable characters and a brilliant setting, this is a murder mystery that kept me guessing until the final conclusion. I am looking forward to where Mary Grand takes this series and Susan, too! If you haven’t read a book by this author yet all I can say is where have you been?
