Today I’m thrilled to say I am part of the book tour for Behind Closed Doors by Carol Wyer. Thanks to ZooLoo’s Book Tours for my invitation to the tour and Carol Wyer for the copy of the book.
Two kidnappings, thirty years apart. Can Stacey face her own dark past in order to save her stepdaughter?
When Stacey’s ex-husband turns up on her doorstep begging her to help save his kidnapped thirteen-year-old daughter, Lyra, the terror is all too familiar. Stacey’s own violent kidnapping thirty years ago was never solved, and while a severe case of amnesia spares her from recalling the specific horrors, she remembers enough…
Stacey knows her father never paid the ransom—she has the missing pinkie finger to prove it. She knows she was only saved because of an anonymous tip-off to the police. And she knows her captor was never apprehended.
Lyra’s kidnappers have made it clear the police must not get involved. But Stacey can’t shake the eerie similarities between the two cases, and she’ll use whatever she can, from her journalistic powers to her shady contacts, to save Lyra from the same nightmare. Desperate to find any link between Lyra’s abduction and her own, Stacey forces herself to revisit her forgotten, traumatic past for clues.
But can she make sense of the terrible secrets she unearths in time to save Lyra? And if she does, is she ready to face her own tormentor?
I have read the majority of Carol Wyer’s books so I was dying to read Behind Closed Doors. I had no doubt I would love this book as Carol’s writing always makes for a captivating read.
This is a standalone thriller that tells us the story of two kidnappings thirty years apart. We meet Stacey who was kidnapped as a child. Her father refused to pay the ransom do she was left with a missing finger. Luckily she was discovered by the police. Now, thirty years on, Stacey’s ex has contacted her, his daughter has been kidnapped and he needs her help. She decides to help, as much as she can, as her ex, Jack won’t involve the police as they are threatening his daughters life if he does. Stacey, just isn’t sure how much she can help as she doesn’t know what is real or not from her memories of her own kidnapping when she was a girl.
Another fast paced, totally addictive thriller that I was glued to from the off! Carol has an ability to draw a reader deep into the story, to the point that I feel I’m with the characters. Stacey was a fabulous character,I thought her a strong woman who was willing to investigate and dig into her own memories to validate what was real or not. All to help her ex and his daughter who she loved, that was crystal clear.
The story goes from present day back to the past when Stacey was kidnapped so we see what happened to her and as I say, Stacey learns the truth of her own memories.
There are so many twists and turns to this story, with a tension that does make the reader aware that the clock is ticking for Stacey’s stepdaughter. I was almost as worried for her as Stacey and Jack!
The setting of Morecambe was one that made it even easier for me to envision. I’m very familiar with it so, could picture it all pretty easily.
Another excellently written, intriguing mystery thriller that literally took over my life for the time it took me read it. I hope we see more of Stacey in the future.

Sharon, a huge thank you for your superb review and for being part of the tour. I’m so happy that you enjoyed the book, especially as it was a standalone thriller and not my usual police procedural/crime.
I loved that last line! Netflix! If only…
If you have a moment, I’d really appreciate it if you could copy this ace review to Amazon. I would love other readers to be able to read it. (Apologies if you have already done it, – I didn’t spot it this morning, but in my defence I was very bleary-eyed!) I understand if you can’t too… many bloggers have been banned from Amazon! (Grr!)
Thank you too for sharing the book love… without you and others like you… I would have no readers – you are the best!
Carol xoxo
