SHE INVITED HER INTO HER HEAD, NOW SHE CAN’T GET HER OUT .
I have read Eileen Wharton’s books before so was looking forward to reading Hear Me Cry even before I got the book.
This is a hard read in so many ways. Heather Parnell tries to run away from a commune in the 1970s and ends up being known as the Commune Killer when she gets embroiled in murders as she attempts to flee. Present day we find her living as a nun. Katie Kovacs is a literary agent, her husband is controlling as well as the boss of the company she works for too. Heather wants Katie to tell her story but will she reveal everything about the murders in the fast?
A story that’s quite complex with heavy and sensitive issues running throughout. It did take a little time before I got my head around the characters and timelimes, but when I got to grips with that, I just flew through this. It gripped me to the point I wanted to keep reading even though it wasn’t comfortable at times.
The abuse that the characters receive felt like Eileen Wharton was almost ripping my own heart out and stamping on it. I have heard lots of abuse stories and feel like I can handle majority of issues raised in books. Hear Me Cry almost made me cry and that’s unusual. Her emotive and well written descriptions of the characters and how they cope in these situations reached out to me.
It is a very twisty story and you have to keep your head in the book as it all unfolds. There were moments I felt a chill run up my spine it got that creepy. Every situation and issue is dealt with sensitively and in line with the plot. There is no over-egging, there is no need. The authors words say it perfectly.
No matter how many twists, turns and shocks there are throughout this book nothing prepared me for the ending of this book. I didn’t think Eileen Wharton could have thrown any more at us…but I was definitely wrong! An excellent immersive and emotional new book that I recommend if you love a twisty, complex and hard hitting story.
