Rachel Brimble – Victoria & Violet @rararesources @RachelBrimble #Victoria&Violet #SharonBTB

Today I’m happy to be hosting a stop on Victoria & Violet by Rachel Brimble. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and

It should be a dream come true to serve the Queen of England…

When Violet Parker is told she will be Queen Victoria’s personal housemaid, she cannot believe her good fortune. She finally has the chance to escape her overbearing mother, a servant to the Duchess of Kent.

Violet hopes to explore who she is and what the world has to offer without her mother’s schemes overshadowing her every thought and action.

Then she meets James Greene, assistant to the queen’s chief political adviser, Lord Melbourne. From entirely different backgrounds and social class, Violet and James should have neither need nor desire to speak to one another, yet through their service, their paths cross and their lives merge—as do their feelings.

Only Victoria’s court is not always the place for romance, but rather secrets, scandals, and conspiracies…

I am basically a history geek and love almost any type of historical fiction. Rachel Brimble is an author who writes historical fiction with an authenticity that immerses you in the period she is writing about.

Victoria & Violet is set in the time of a young Queen Victoria’s reign. A time when the young Queen was attempting to free herself from her overbearing mother. Violet is a young woman who is made maid to the Queen, much to her mothers and the Duchess of Kent, her mother’s employer, glee. They think she will spy for them. They don’t count on Violet and Victoria discovering they have more in common than they thought and become friends. They thwart every attempt that is put in their way by the Duchess.

It isn’t just a historical story it also has romance blended into it. James Greene is aide to Lord Melbourne and is at the other end of the class system to Violet but could this forbidden alliance be something that may flourish…or not?

The first book in The Royal Maids Series, Victoria & Violet brought the Victorian era to vivid life. From the rich details of Royal life and houses to the secrets, scandals and even conspiracies of the court I was reminded of the television series about Queen Victoria. I was in my element throughout.

Rachel Brimble’s characters aren’t all likeable, some of them are just social climbers within the court, some are totally hateful too. Everyone of them played their own part in the telling of the story and are lifelike enough to fell I knew them.

A well-written and, as I found previously, so well researched story. This author knows her Victorian period as I know from her other book ‘A Very Modern Marriage’. Victoria & Violet is a book that is so easy to read and it makes you feel like you are really there. I felt like I was transported back in time and by Violets side as this book unfolded.

I certainly am looking forward to Rachel Brimble’s next book in this series.
