I have read Cole Baxters books before and I have always really enjoyed them. The Betrayal is another psychological thriller that I was curious about. I wondered if it would be as good as his other work, the cover of the book and the blurb made me pretty eager to get sat down and reading. I just hoped the pages within would hold up to the promise of the blurb.
Erin Caldwell is a woman who has lived through hell. The abuse and violence she suffered, gave her the strength to fight to get her ex husband locked away for attempted murder. Her biggest fear is that he will one day make good on his final threat to her, to find her and finish the job.
After moving to a small island she starts again. Her nights still plagued with nightmares of her ex, she can’t get rid of the feeling that he is near. She meets Dominic, a man she soon realises shares some similarities with her ex. Already on edge she discovers her ex has been released from prison. Is her island life really the dream she wished for or is it the nightmare continued?
Another twisty and chilling thriller that shows us the darkest side to love and obsession. Yet again, well written with well fleshed out characters that I found believable and a plot that grabbed me immediately. Cole Baxter always brings a final reveal that has the power to make you sit up and say what?! He didn’t let me down with The Betrayal.
As the story unfolded, the tension started rising and I was second guessing every move the characters made. Yet again Inkubator Books and Cole Baxter have brought a thrilling, brilliant book into the world.
