I’m excited to say I am part of the blog tour for Confessions Of An Alleged Good Girl ny Joya Goffney, on behalf of Rachel’s Random Resources. Thanks to Rachel and Hot Key books for the copy of the book to take part.
Monique lives a perfect life as a preacher’s daughter, and girlfriend of the town’s golden boy. But its not that simple. She’s torn between her parents, who want her to remain their pure, virginal daughter, and her boyfriend, Dom, who wants to explore the more intimate side of their relationship.
Tired of waiting, Dom breaks up with Monique, spurring her to discover she has a medical condition that make her far from perfect. With the help of Sasha, an overly zealous church girl, and Reggie, the town’s bad boy, she concocts a plan to win Dom back.
But along the way, she must face some home truths: maybe she shouldn’t be fixing her body to please a boy, maybe Sasha is the friend she needed all along and maybe Reggie isn’t so bad after all…

Confessions of an Alleged Good Girl is a fabulous coming of age young adult book that explores the sensitive subjects of sex and everything around that. Goya Joffney brilliantly raises the topic of vaginismus and hopefully it will raise more awareness of it. I must say it makes such a refreshing change to have a book that has every possibility of educating women or young adults through such a compelling book.
Monique, her father is the towns preacher and her boyfriend is the golden boy of the town. On the face of it, living a perfect life but scratch a little and nothing looks that rosy. Her parents are of the belief no sex before marriage while her boyfriend is pressurising her to become more intimate. Monique is split in two with the decisions she needs to make.
I found this such a captivating book. The subjects raised are handled so well. I was happy to see that this book was centred around, basically, the pressure girls feel by boyfriends to become more intimate before they feel ready. I absolutely adored Sasha, a fellow church goer, who very quickly moved from Monique’s frenemy to a solid friend in no time. The towns ‘bad boy’ Reggie plays his part in helping Monique too, and proves to her that she shouldn’t judge a book by the cover.
I fell in love with this book and the characters. The storyline is such an important one and the characters are so vivid. I really felt like I was a part the book. It’s such an inspiring and from the heart story about loving yourself before you can love anyone else. It also has the message of body positivity and alongside the reclamation of sexual identity for yourself. I sure that any young adult romance readers are going to be thrilled to read this book.

I have not heard of the book but it sounds good. I like the message of not changing yourself for a boy.
