How To Spot a Psychopath is a great introduction to Oscar De La Nuit, the character this new series will be revolving around. After this book I am looking forward to reading the second.

We see Oscar,a psychiatrist, transferring Jess, a journalist, mother and a woman who has been accused of killing a missing child, into his care. The public and the police have already decided she is guilty as she won’t speak. Oscar thinks he can help her but is Jess guilty or not?

A twisted and interesting psychological thriller that’s told from past and present, so we get to know what impact the present day events have on the characters due to the past. As Oscar begins to attempt to help Jess we learn of his life also. He is determined to help her and in doing so sails quite close to the wind, almost losing his job.

This is a fast read and the plot had me invested in what had happened to Mia, the child that is missing. I had my own opinions and I thought Holly, Mia’s mother, left a lot to be desired straight away. Each character was drawn well enough for me to become so interested in what was happening and I love a book like that. I thought Jess was perfect for the role she played in the book. I felt for her and I also related to her being a parent as well.

The fact I didn’t know where this story was going with the twists and intrigue was pretty refreshing. The chapters short and pace good, which increased as the story developed, all culminating in a conclusion that I enjoyed. Another new author for me, with a fresh series that I looking forward to reading.
