Thanks to Random Things Tours and A.M Gautam for the chance to take part in the blog tour today and for the copy of the book in order to give you my thoughts.

A.M Gautam

Set in the quaint hill-station of Landour, India this is the story of Aayaan, a painter whose mind always shows him the world in a way that suits him the best, and of Kavya, a writer, who is coping with the recent death of her parents by dropping out of college and opening up a pizzeria.Aayaan’s everyday life in Landour reeks of loneliness and mundane routines; his days often begin with him waking up in his bed and wishing that he had not woken up at all. His only relief is his weekly visits to the newly-opened Sawyer’s Pizzeria where, while gobbling down pizza, he can watch the girl he fancies, Kavya’s twin sister, Kalpana.

Things take a darker turn soon, however, and blood spills when it is revealed that one of the sisters suffers from existential crises, or rather, a crisis of existence.

A Dream Of Duplicity is set in India and to all intents and purposes it appears to be a boy meets girl story. Aayaan struggles with past pain and trauma so opening himself up for a girl is so hard. Twins Kavya and Kalpana own a pizzeria where they work too after their parents pass away. Aayaan plucks up his courage to speak to the quietest twin Kalpana.

This book is one of the most surprising books I have read. What starts as one thing veers of into another direction. A.M Gautam very skilfully lulls the reader into a false sense of security, then BAM! The second part kicks in. Murder along with plenty of things going on and the psychological side to the story begins.
A.M Gautam describes the settings brilliantly, they feel so real and your imagination fires up immediately. I love being educated as I am being entertained and I was. The Indian culture was interesting to read about. The differences between what I am used to and in India are clear.

The pace of the story really racks up as the story unfolds and as it increased so did my page turning.

A Dream Of Duplicity is translated fiction and that’s another one of my favourites these days. I have found I really enjoy books from different countries and this is another one that solidified my opinion.
I will be keeping my eye on this author for the future.
