Gill Merton – Entitled| @zooloosBT|@gill_merton|#Entitled #ZooloosBookTours

I’m thrilled to say I am bringing my review for Entitled by Gill amerton on behalf of ZooLoo’s Book Tours today. Thanks to Zoe and Gill Merton for the copy of the book to take part today.

In 1971, Nan Douglas and her toddler twins arrive on the remote island of Inniscuiilin, long-lost family of the eccentric Miss Campbell. For fifteen years they all live quietly up at the Big House, until the twins start planning their future – forcing Nan to confront their past…

Because someone, somewhere believes that the twins aren’t twins. That they’re not even Nan’s children. And that Nan isn’t Nan.

Only Nan herself can prove them wrong – but it’s a gamble. Win or lose, she’s still at risk of losing her beloved family.

Entitled is the first book I have read by the collective that is Gill Merton, so I didn’t really know what to expect as I sat down to read. All I knew was I loved the promise of the synopsis and just hoped the pages within the book would keep to that promise.

A complex thriller that that borders upon psychological in its telling. A title that fits like a glove and a story that had me glued to this book. If you come into this book expecting the events on the synopsis straight away, don’t. Just settle down and let this book weave it’s literary magic.

We meet Sally,  a girl who is determined to be a doctor…until the day she meets Malcolm. A man who makes her do a total U turn. Her story will tug at your heartstrings as you wonder what will become of her from this, will she sweep it under the carpet and move on, or will she be stopped in her tracks unable to move forward?

There are issues dealt with in this book that are triggers for some people. Just to be warned abortion and infertility are two worth mentioning. The setting of Inniscuiillan with the residents really took me there. The characters all well developed from the ones that definitely aren’t likable to the ones that tug at your heart as you read.

Entitled is a story about the ‘entitled’ in life; those who take what they want and use who they want with no regard for others. I guarantee your blood will boil as you read this book but if you are like me you just can’t put the book down.

It’s such an engaging story and one that you think you know everything as you read but you soon find out you know nothing as the separate threads get woven together but not in a way you expect.

A brilliantly plotted and expertly executed story that definitely leaves you picking your jaw up from the floor. I do hope we see more books from this talented set of writers.
