Karen Booth – Brooklyn Monroe Wants It All

A fabulous later-in-life romance. The second in the series, but I haven’t read the first and thought it a great book on it’s own.

Karen Booth

She can’t hit the snooze on her biological clock forever…

Love, career, kids—Brooklyn Monroe wants it all. Her beauty company? A triumph. Her love life? Total fail. At 42, that makes motherhood her top priority. With no man in her life, she’s prepared to fly solo, but her plan is derailed when a mailing list mishap turns Brooklyn into a someone-get-me-pregnant internet meme. Making her PR nightmare go away entails a soul-baring interview on national TV. And the guy asking the questions? Her all-too sexy ex.

Talk show host Alec Trakas is the king of bad timing. Case in point, his heartbreaking romance with Brooklyn. Alec was all about commitment but Brooklyn was launching her start-up, and forever wasn’t in the cards. Now a shot at his ultimate dream job depends on convincing Brooklyn to spill the secrets leading to her viral celebrity. It sets Alec’s star rising, but puts Brooklyn in a sea of flirty men. Fate has thrown them back together. Sparks are flying. But is the timing finally right? Because having it all might not be worth the risk of losing each other again

I loved this book! I just adored that Karen Booth had created Brooklyn as being on the ‘older’ side, she is 42. She has had a career-driven life and is completely happy, apart from the fact that she is getting older and her biological clock is ticking. Brooklyn’s success in business means she is used to eventually getting her way but this personal issue is not as cut and dried.

A story that handles sensitive issues around fertility and handles them well. The author has skillfully interwoven them with humour and romance too. This brings a highly entertaining and also touching book.

The characters are excellently developed. I love Brooklyn and could empathise with her. I was an older mum, maybe not as old as Brooklyn is in this book, but I remember the feelings I felt before I had my youngest child. Then there is Alec, who was in love with Brooklyn and wanted a life with her but the timing was all wrong. The timing seems to always be out of sync with these two, only time will tell if they can put everything right and be on the same path at the same time. I was rooting for both of them, I liked them that much.

The humour had me laughing out loud in places and I fully appreciated the lightness that it brought to the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this thought-provoking, funny, and entertaining book. It made me want to read the first book too.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Karen Booth for my place on the tour and the copy of the book.
