David Gatward – The Restless Dead

‘The Restless Dead’ by David Gatward is the fifth book in the DCI Harry Grimm series. This is a series I have to say that is among my top go-to series. Set in Wensleydale with a copper who has come from the city and expected to have nothing to do…well! May I say Harry seems to have brought the crime with him! This particular book is a bit different as it doesn’t seem to just be crime Harry has to deal with…there seems to be something spooky going on too.

Be careful what you wish for. When no-nonsense retired Army Colonel James Fletcher starts seeing his recently deceased wife around the house again, his friends and family are more than a little worried.
But when James turns up dead, and the accident that killed him is found to be anything but, DCI Harry Grimm and his team must uncover the grisly truth before anyone else falls prey.
In a house torn in two by ghosts and betrayal, Harry may soon find that death isn’t always the end. Sometimes, it’s only the beginning…

David Gatward has cleverly brought an unusual twist to a crime thriller that adds even more to this fabulous series. As always his characters are so vivid they jump off the pages, my total favourite is Harry, always will be.

The plot is, as always, so interesting that from the beginning I was so invested I just raced through the book. I always love a new Harry Grimm I know it will be a blend of serious matters plus the humour that I come to expect from David Gatward’s work. His descriptive writing of the Yorkshire Dales is perfect. I feel like I am with Harry and the team, in fact, I feel like I am back with old friends as I start to read. There is a cliffhanger at the end of this book and it makes me want book number six like yesterday.

A very highly recommended book, in fact, series. I would say to enjoy DCI Harry Grimm at his finest begin from book one and read them in order. You are in for a treat!
