Carole Wyer – A Cut For A Cut

‘A Cut For a Cut’ by Carole Wyer is the second book in the Detective Kate Young series. I was so happy to be back to catch up with Kate. A woman who isn’t a run of the mill D.I, so needless to say you can expect this book not to be a straight police thriller.

Carole Wyer

Kate and the team are on a case of a serial rapist and murderer. This perpetrator is vicious, the team and the family members of the victims are all horrified at these acts. For Kate herself they take her too close to her memories of the past. Every member of this investigation become more frustrated and it becomes apparent as they continue to hunt for this killer they want of the streets. We move between Kate with her personal life, the investigation and the killers point of view too. We learn of their motivations as the story unfolds.

This series is one that you really could do with reading the first book as Kate’s background is continued within this story, although the first book was its own story as is this. Some revelations affect Kate in her personal life and we see how Kate reacts to whether to follow her instinct to find the truth or do what is actually right.

Carol Wyer and her characterisation is again spot on. Kate is a very realistic character whom I find intriguing. She is a widow whose husband died in a terrorist attack not too long back and she is still grieving. In ‘A Cut For A Cut’ we have her sister and nephew visiting her. We see the relationship between herself and her sister play out within these pages and I feel it added another dimension and depth to Kate for me anyway.

Another dark and gritty police procedural/thriller from Carol Wyer. I was gripped immediately just as I was with the first instalment of D.I Kate Young. A series I am looking forward to developing even more and I am eagerly awaiting number three!

Thanks to Emma Welton from Damp Pebbles Blog Tours and Carol Wyer for my copy of this excellent book.
