‘The Murderess’ by Ivan Jenson is a psychological thriller that grabbed me immediately. The cover itself was enough for me to jump at the chance of reading it.

Becca Garner is the perfect wife to outsiders looking in. But what outsiders and her family don’t know is that Becca is sex-obsessed and is dissatisfied with her family life. Becca has had many affairs and she is showing no signs of stopping. However, things take a dark and twisted turn when her latest lover Pedro is brutally murdered, whilst Becca was at the scene unaware. Pedro has left Becca One million dollars in his will, but money comes with a price and this is a lesson Becca is about to learn.
One of my favourite genres are psychological thrillers and I was dying to settle down with a book that seemed to tick all the boxes for me. A book that is told in first person by Becca so I really got to know and understand how she ticked. The only problem being that it was like she had a split personality – a vulnerable side and then the Becca people mainly saw. It created a curiosity for me, why was she so vulnerable? She is very complex and most definitely flawed I was hoping I would get to dig through her past.
The first chapter highlights just how crazy Becca is and wow, I was hooked! I couldn’t wait to read without interruption. Ivan Jenson highlights issues throughout the story such as the amount of time spent on mobiles, social media and the dangers.
I really felt I was riding shotgun with Becca driving the plot and I was fully connected to her throughout. So I experienced being immersed in this story that became darker as we travelled through it. I spent an awful lot of my time really wondering what was next. The twists were perfectly placed and increased the suspense for me.

A book that I finished in no time due to ignoring anything that needed doing in my house!
Thanks to Anne Cater of Random Things Tours and Dark Edge Press for my copy of the book.
