Kerena Swan – Blood Loss

Blood Loss by Kerena Swan is the first book in the DI Paton investigates series published by Hobeck Books, now, I must say Hobeck Books does rank high for me when it comes to quality stories. I haven’t read any of Kerena Swans’ work but the cover and synopsis drew me in immediately.

Kerena Swan

The story begins the way it means to go on and I was dragged right in on the first page. It begins with the murder of a man and a woman making her escape. She has no guilt for the killing from her, it was all his fault. She believes she will get away with it as she has covered her tracks well enough, but will she?

We follow two women Sarah and Jenna they are both following different paths in life and it isn’t too long when we see where the story is taking us with Sarah and Jenna. The murdered man is discovered and DI Paton is on the case. He realises that with the length of time he has been dead he is now in a race against time to catch the perpetrator of the crime. As he knows the possibility of catching her is decreasing quickly but he thinks that this could just be the case that will get him the promotions he wants. With a trail so cold will he be able to solve this crime to get his boost, or will he have to wait a bit longer?

As I said, I was hooked from the start. A fast-paced story and I was reading at a pace you wouldn’t believe! As the story unfolded and more clues were discovered about the victim and that day, the tension raced on.

The characters are all developed really well and each character had their flaws and boy we find out about them. Di Paton is a character who I enjoyed, with his agenda for being as dogged as he is in this investigation, he intrigued me and I look forward to discovering more about him as the series goes on.

A book for those who need a thriller with twists that you don’t expect. Kerena Swan seems to have it cracked on book one already!

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources, Hobeck Books and Kerena Swan for my copy of the book.
