Angela Fisher – The Fractured Globe

‘The Fractured Globe’ by Angela Fisher is a novel that follows the paths of two single young mothers who meet when their sons are born on the same day in the same hospital.

Angela Fisher

Tia and Kay both from different backgrounds. Tia is the product of the social welfare system. She wants a better life for her baby. Her manipulative and abusive boyfriend controls her with drink, drugs, crime and enforced prostitution does not signal much hope. Will she be able to break free from the pattern or will she stay?

Kay is from a stable family background but decides to shake lose so she can live her own life, at first.
We see their lives and the lives of their families run side by side for twenty-five years, along with the lies and betrayals. Can they break free and have a chance of happiness or not?

A story that echoes down the years of these two girls. One that begins when Kay decides to help the inexperienced Tia with her new baby while they are in hospital still. Kay is discharged home and thinks no more of the young girl she helped. That is until Tia knocks on her door telling her she has run away from the hospital with her baby and could she help?

We follow these girls through their lives and see what became of them and their sons. An emotional and sometimes very hard read. Tia’s story is heartbreaking and one that is not as rare as you would think. That was the worst bit for me, knowing that there are girls that I went to school with who have, at different times in the past experienced such things as what Tia had. Angela Fisher has made characters that are almost tangible in their emotions and you really just want to make things right for them.

The ability to create a connection for the reader with their characters is a skill and boy, this connection was definitely there.

A story that shows how powerful the past is but with determination and courage you can break away.

Thank you to Damp Pebbles Blog Tours and Angela Fisher for the copy of the book for my review.
