A.J. Cross – Dark Truths

‘Dark Truths’ by A.J Cross is a book for fans who, like me really love the T.V series Silent Witness. It is a crime thriller that I picked up and immediately loved everything about it, from the cover to the skilfully plotted story.

A.J. Cross

D.I. Bernard Watts is an officer who has seen plenty over his career. An officer not easily shocked due to his experiences of twisted people and their capacity for cruelty. Then he and his team are called out to the body of a young woman, discovered on a popular jogging path in Birmingham. The body shows she has not just been killed, she has also been decapitated and her head is missing. This shocks him to his very core and he realises this has to be their most disturbing case. They cannot comprehend who would do such a thing and why? What did this young woman do to deserve being murdered this way? As the investigation begins to point in the direction of being linked to a historical crime a forensic criminologist, Will Traynor is called on the case. DI Watts is far from pleased or impressed. He is not convinced that Traynor can make a difference and he knows of Traynor’s past also. Can Traynor prove DI Watts wrong and help them solve the case? Or will DI Watts be vindicated in his doubts?

‘Dark Truths’ is a story that is expertly told with multiple threads that A.J Cross has weaved together so well, bringing the past into the present. This is a book that hooks you in and doesn’t fail to deliver the twists and revelations along with a darkness to the story that gave me goosebumps too.
