Polly Phillips – My Best Friend’s Murder

‘My Best Friend’s Murder’ by Polly Phillips is a story that quite a few people can connect with. Bec and Izzy are best friends, have been that way since school but as time has ticked on the friendship has changed. Nowadays things aren’t quite the same with them.

The book begins with an introduction that throws you headlong into the story and from there, there is no going back! From that point, the story continues with Bec popping round to Izzy’s with some fabulous news. This is when we get to have a peek into the type of friendship these two women experience.

As I said, once you read the first few pages, you are hooked. This is a book that you really can’t stop flipping those pages. As the story unfolds the sense of doom deepens along with the intrigue of what will happen next and where the story goes.

Initially I did think Bec as a character, very weak-willed and too willing to bend over backwards to please Izzy but as I learned more about her past and how she sees Izzy as a mainstay in her life, I did warm towards her and begin to will her on in finding courage to be braver. Izzy is one of those people, the kind we all have one of in our friendship circle. The mean girl in a way. Always has better, looks better and does better. The one who finds fault in everything you do, she has the air of the one with the upper hand always, but looks like butter wouldn’t melt. Even her daughter, Tilly, only a small girl is caught up in Izzy’s expectations and my heart went out to her on multiple occasions. She couldn’t please her mum because Izzy’s expectations of her little girl went beyond normal expectations really.

A story that blends family, love, friendships, toxic or otherwise all together to bring us a read that is as intriguing as it is mesmerising right till the final page.
