Tony Parks – The Last Survivor (A Pretoria Cycad and Firearms Appreciation Society Mystery)

‘The Last Survivor (A Pretoria Cycad and Firearms Appreciation Society Mystery)’ by Tony Park is part of a series but, this is my first introduction to Tony Park’s work and this can easily be read as a standalone.

Tony Park

An action-packed thriller that has Africa as its setting. What begins with a stolen rare plant snowballs into the possibility of a terrorist attack and the ensuing chase takes us through Africa at a breakneck speed. Joanne is the main suspect of the theft and is hiding out in London. While there, she kills a single gunman foiling a terrorist attack alone.

CIA contractor, Sonja Kurtz discovers a link between the missing plant and the terrorist who tried to kill Joanne. The US government believe if they can find the plant they may be able to stop a terrorist attack. Amongst this, Joanne is a member of the Pretoria Cycad and Firearms Appreciation Society. The Cycad is the rare plant that is missing, so she enlists the help of her fellow club members who are Cycad specialist, but are a gun-toting gang also. This unusual group go on the hunt to find the missing plant.
Well! Not a run of the mill set of main characters for a thriller but a set that made this book not only full of action, but interesting too. It held me so I did have a struggle putting it down to do something else. The setting of Africa made it different to me and a lovely change.

If you fancy an action-packed story, full of interesting and different characters, try this. Tony Parks has weaved a story together so skilfully that it hooks you straight away. I am looking forward to the time I can fill in the gaps of the Sonja Kurtz series and read the other books.

Thanks to Tony Parks and Damp Pebbles Blog tours for the gift of the book so I could write my review today.
