James Wilson – Coyote Fork

Coyote Fork by James Wilson is a thriller that begins in a normal, mundane sort of way, but soon it opens into a story that had me gripped.

James Wilson

Robert Lovelace is a journalist who has been made redundant due to the company he worked for being sold. He decides to take a trip to the U.S to discover more about Ethan Bone, the man who bought the company and find out about his social media site. He starts just wanting the details to write a piece on the site and him, as he begins to dig, he finds he looking at something so much more serious and darker than he could have imagined.

A story that seems mild-mannered, is a little like a wolf in sheep’s clothing as the story unfolds. An investigation into corporate cover-ups soon turns into the stuff of our nightmares. Robert is a fascinating character and I travelled this journey by his side, well, that is how it felt. The writing is superb and the turn of the investigation creates such undertones that I sometimes almost had goosebumps.

This story tackles the role of social media and all the responsibilities that should come with it. All the things that we begin to see happening today, online bullying, the trolling and the communities that are formed online too. The toll the internet can take on mental health. It even goes further and brings human rights and environmental issues. This is a mighty story in one book and on top of all these we deal with the actual people and their maelstrom of emotions.

James Wilson has very cleverly created a story for today. One that has you thinking of the “what ifs?” Days after you have finished this book. In conclusion a very entertaining and thoughtful book, for me anyway.

Thanks to Random Things Resources, Slant Books and James Wilson for the copy of the book to write my review today.
