Kate Bulpitt – Purple People

Purple People by Kate Bulpitt is a truly different read! A book that has skilfully blended satire with craziness and a lot of purple people to create a story that entertains while you start thinking differently about things. It highlights the possibilities of what governments could do if they so choose too.

Eve is living in New York, working on ‘Say Fantastique’, a digital newspaper that focuses on the sillier, more uplifting side of like. You know the ‘…and finally’ at the end of the news. She knows she isn’t fulfilling her potential, but what do you do?
Eve hears from a friend in “Blighty”, England to the uninitiated that people are randomly turning purple! She thinks Nah! But her interest is piqued.

The reports keep rolling in about the purpleness and Eve’s dad has been injured in a pub fight, so she arranges to visit him. The idea of killing two birds with one stone is the forefront of her mind. She returns home to be with her family and finds herself, oh so conveniently placed to check out the Purple People project, a scheme turning people who have committed anti-social or criminal behaviour. Always on a mission to seek out a better story, Eve stays in England with university friends Helena and Womble and decides to investigate how people are being turned purple.

A fascinating, engrossing and very unique story that is quite fitting for the time we are living in. I was invested after the first chapter. Kate Bulpitt has written, for me a hilarious story with her humour and wit. I thought her characters were all well developed and fleshed out, all with their own personalities and actions. Eve, I wasn’t sure of at first, she seemed a little dizzy but as the story unfolds we see a determination and boy she could be feisty! Another author’s work that I have been introduced to and have thoroughly enjoyed their work!

Thank you to Random Resources and Kate Bulpitt for the book to write this review today. I loved it.
