Cathryn Grant – The Assistant

‘The Assistant’ by Cathryn Grant is a fast-paced and very entertaining book. I sped through this over a day, couldn’t put the book down for an overly long time.

Cathryn Grant

Laura is a woman who puts career before everything else in her life and is just waiting for her well-deserved promotion at the office. Vanessa on the other hand is not ambitious about her career, she is more into shoplifting! She is the boss, Hanks, admin assistant and is protective of him and that includes keeping Laura as far away as humanely possible.

One thing about Vanessa is she loves attracting attention, and that means tight pants, high heels and loads of lipgloss. Laura sees this behaviour and thinks Vanessa is after Hank, the boss. They both begin an office rivalry with each other that descends into things no one could ever foresee.

This is a book in which all the characters are as unlikeable as each other, although this made the story even more intense and taut with tension especially as Laura begins to descend into a mental state that goes beyond what an office rivalry actually deserves. This is the second book by Cathryn Grant I have read. The first being The Guest and she does not disappoint again, with characters we like to dislike and a story that keeps you hooked.

Thank you to Damp pebbles, Inkubator Books, Book Sprout and Cathryn Grant for the book to write this review today.
