Jonathan Janz – The Raven (Fiction Without Frontiers)

‘The Raven (Fiction Without Frontiers)’ by Jonathan Janz is a gripping dystopian horror (as the title suggests anything goes), that will have you so fascinated you won’t want to put this book down! Well, I didn’t anyway! Set in a post-apocalyptic world that is so dark and scary, chock full of monsters and the looming possibility of the human race becoming extinct.

Jonathan Janz

Dez McClane is a survivor of the event known as The Shift. He is left in the middle of a place he does not recognise and has to face every scary monster in the book. He is just doing his best to survive. Dez is no superhero though, he is as weak as the next human being. He doubts his reactions, his motivations, even in life or death situations. I was cheering him on and hoping against hope all the way through! I loved the fact that Dez was just a normal person and all these doubts crowded his mind, made me feel like, Yes! That could be me in this situation! The monsters he has to face though?! Cannibals, werewolves… not something you could say, ah why is he worried? It is natural, even in this terrible world of The Raven. Dez only has himself to rely on as well, no teamwork here. He has the monsters in his head as well as the supposedly fictional ones, this man had my upmost respect throughout this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed being half scared to death with Dez and loved the author’s world-building and characterisation of Dez, he has created such a relatable person with him. A fallible human being is something everybody likes to see in a story such as this. Many thanks to Random Things Tours and Jonathan Janz for the copy of this terrifying book for my review today.
