‘Curmudgeon Avenue’, Book One of The Terraced House Diaries by Samantha Henthorn is a quirky and funny book. It is narrated by the house, yes you read correctly, the house! I really loved the cover of this book, just colourful and not too fancy. It just cried out to be read. I wasn’t sure how the story would unfold, would the house interfere with its occupants’ lives? Well, I just went right in to find out. The house just explained how the occupiers who lived inside its walls actually got to be there. There are some things we are told but I am sure these are to connect each book in the separate diaries. I need to read them and find out!

The book is told from the actual perspective of the house, so we get to read these opinions, which are not always of a positive kind. It isn’t able to do anything about the people living in these walls but it can make us know how it feels about them.
The house tells us about the original owners and their strange and unlucky end. We then meet the two sisters who have inherited the house and really need to live in it, together, due to their circumstances. Edith and Edna, different as night and day, but both with no means to keep the repairs on the house up to scratch. Enter lodgers, not one but two! Well, the house has it’s an opinion on that as well.

I loved this book the minute I picked it up, maybe I could relate more because it is set in Manchester and I laughed! I really smiled and had chuckles constantly at this house and the sisters inside with their weird ways. I am so glad I came on this books blog tour, or I would have never discovered this little gem of a book. Thank you to Random Things Tours for asking me on it and Samantha for the copy of the book.

Thank you so much for this awesome blog post, Sharon. You’re blog is brilliant- so glad I found you! I live in Bury and my old job was in Salford. I always used to get caught in traffic in Whitefield on the way home. Obviously, Curmudgeon Avenue is fictitious… but… lol! Thanks again, I really appreciate it:)
