Taryn Leigh – The Secret Letters

‘The Secret Letters’ by Taryn Leigh is a romantic suspense novel set in South Africa. I was intrigued by the beautiful cover and the blurb, so couldn’t wait to throw myself into South Africa and all the events the book brings us.

Rachel was saved from an attack twelve years previously by an anonymous person who she could never thank. After the attack she received letters from her saviour which helped her overcome this traumatic time, after a while, the letters stopped arriving. She went on to become a psychologist to help others. She is in a long term relationship with Will which she is coming to terms with the fact that maybe he is not THE ONE. While out walking her dog Rachel meets an older gentleman Mr.Lemon and they get friendly, chatting while out. Rachel works with Will’s brother and sometimes finds him way more supportive than Will himself. Then the unthinkable happens and the letters begin to arrive again.

I adored the setting, I was sat there imagining myself in South Africa, so much descriptive writing, I loved being taken away while I was reading this book. I thought Mr.Lemon was lovely, he and Rachel just slotted into place as friends and his story was integral to the book as much as Rachels.

The story does have a lot of different themes such as trauma and, surviving that trauma, relationships and romance with some mystery in there too. It is also a fictional account of a real-life event so it does impact you when you are reading it. I was fully immersed in Rachels world throughout this, there are so many different emotions you cannot read this and not be. Some very hard-hitting subjects, that at times, can become difficult to take in. Then the survival from them is uplifting and with the glimpse of romance on the horizon, makes you feel just about anything is possible.

Thanks to Rachels Random Resources and Taryn Leigh for the copy of the book and inviting me onto this blog tour today.
