Delia Pitts – Pauper And Prince In Harlem

‘Pauper And Prince In Harlem’ by Delia Pitts is the fourth book in The Ross Agency Mystery series but I was pleased when I realised that the author has been able to give depth to her characters and her world-building so we are thrown into the story without a backwards glance, so not feeling like I was starting right in the middle of an ongoing story.

Delia Pitts

We meet Rook and his girlfriend, Brina, who is the daughter of Rook’s boss at the Ross Agency, where Rook is a P.I and whom Rook enlists to help him find a drive-by shooter who has killed his friend Zaine. He also gets a witness of the killing involved, a transgender runaway called Whip, who seems as mysterious as the killer at times. The only problem Rook does not know as yet is that Whip was not just a witness and Rook is about to bite off more than he can chew. Rook has to use his street knowledge to save Whip and bring a killer to justice.

This is a proper, gritty story that has all the twists you should expect from a murder mystery. Rook is an excellent character who goes all out to get it done and he is a great detective. I really enjoyed meeting Rook in this book and have now added another three books to my never-ending list. Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for my spot today on the blog tour.
