John Maher – The Collector

The Collector by John Maher is a crime thriller that is written from a different angle than the usual thriller is. Lucy O Hara is a Forensic Linguist who ends up heading the investigation into the death of a world-renowned archaeologist, Philip Carlton. Lucy reads his suicide note and can immediately tell something is not correct in the language, so this is more a case of murder. Her superiors aren’t as easy to agree with her conclusion and so starts the battle.

As Lucy begins to investigate she finds things aren’t as clear cut as the establishment wishes and although she doesn’t know it, the further she digs the more danger she is in. The Collector is after Lucy as he is making sure anyone who can identify him is eliminated, and Lucy is getting too close for comfort.

Lucy is such an interesting character and I loved the fact that she investigated from the language side of things. This is a refreshing change from the run of the mill thriller. I really spent the majority of my time reading this feeling like I needed to be on the edge of my seat. I found it a well-paced book with twists and turns that had me cheering Lucy on, especially in times of danger!

I am so happy to see this is the first book in a new series! Inkubator Books never lets me down. Every release is as good or better than the previous one. Thank you to Damp Pebbles Tours and Inkubator Books, I feel honoured to be part of your blog tours anytime.
