Ramsey Campbell – The Wise Friend

‘The Wise Friend’ by Ramsey Campbell and published by Flametree Press is a very creepy horror story. I am on the Random Things Blog Tour and just have to share my thoughts on this book!

Ramsey Campbell

Patrick’s Aunt Thelma was a famous surrealist artist before she died in mysterious circumstances. Patrick spent a lot of time with his Aunt during his younger years and after discovering her diary in which she has stated places that she has painted and added lines of poetry, decides to visit these places with his son. These visits are with the hope of shedding at least some light on how or why his aunt has died. Patrick becomes very uneasy after visiting these places and feels that whatever it is should be left in the past, but his son, Roy, carries on with no doubt especially after he meets a young woman called Bella who becomes almost like part of the family. The question being, is Partick just being overcautious or even paranoid? Or is there something more sinister at work?

The Wise Friend starts off so innocently but you are soon immersed in a suspenseful, eerie and haunting tale of horror which you wish you could put down but you also really need to carry on! It is a totally addictive story that brings chill long after you have put the book down.l
