Colin Garrow – The Watson Letters Volume 6: The Haunting of Roderick Usher @rararesources @colingarrow#TheHauntingofRoderickUsher #blogtour #SharonBTB

It’s my turn on The Watson Letters Volume 6: The Haunting of roderick Usher by Colin Garrow blog tour today. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Colin Garrow foe the copy of the book.

An invitation. A ghostly spectre. A criminal mastermind.

When Sherlock Holmes is invited to visit an old school friend, he and Doctor Watson are plunged into the first of three adventures involving the Dark Arts and the supernatural. From the ghostly spectre of a dead sister to the search for an ancient book of spells, the detecting duo learn that each case is connected, leading them into a final showdown with their deadliest adversary yet.

Adult humour throughout.

I have had the pleasure of reading Colin Garrow’s work previously but a different genre. This is a totally different type of book, so I just say down with no expectations and started this.

It’s not the first in the series and I haven’t read any of the others but I found it so easy to get into. The Haunting of Roderick Usher is a very different, in fact, unique take on Sherlock Holmes. It builds on the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ lore in an alternative universe and brings adult humour too.

The book comprises of three stories, The Haunting of Roderick Usher, The Ghost Witch and The Very Last Death of Lord Blackwood. They all connect together and are told mainly in diary from Watson, Mary, his wife and Lestrade. All the stories have the supernatural within them in some way or other.

I thought this book was so entertaining. Every character had their own unique voice in each story and I did enjoy the new take on each of the original characters from the original Holmes lore. It was refreshing to see the lighter sides to Watson and Mary and Holmes. I did have a chuckle when reading this.

A gripping and well written book that kept me reading until I had to sleep. I have a few more books to add to my tbr pile now!
