Jane Fenwick – My Constant Lady

Jane Fenwick’s ‘My Constant Lady’ is a historical, fictional love story. It is the first in a series and I am already looking forward to the second!

It centres on Gabriel Reynolds who meets a red haired serving wench named Eleanor in a Whitby inn who, unbeknown to him, will change the course of his life. This leads to disasterous meetings between them, culminating in Gabriel discovering she is engaged to be married. He is determined to try to win her hand and goes back to his own hometown and prepares to start sorting his life out before he attempts to do this.

Eleanor has her own troubles and feels the only way to deal with everything is to flee! We are swept up in the romance and the history of the story. The characters, especially Eleanor, are so interesting and written to a depth that makes me want to know even more! I was so immersed in the richness of the past, whether it was fiction or real, I didn’t really care!
