Dreda Say Mitchell’s new psychological thriller, Trap Door, is the second book of this genre she has written. I personally love Dreda’s writing, but feel with Trap Door she has been honing the skills she has in abundance: to be razor sharp!
Rachel is the main character and is at the end of her tether. She is attempting to be independent, but is losing the battle! She owes money at every corner and is on the edge of losing her house. Her friend recommends her for a job, which seems to be the dream job she needs, one that will sort her out financially once and for all. Upon arriving at her new employment she sees a plaque on the wall outside that there was once a fire in the building and people perished. This sets her imagination going, and the knife edge she is living on seems to be tipping the wrong way! This, added to other factors in her life such as the loss of her mother, the biggest secret ever from 10 years ago that she has never and will never speak about again, all pull her into an abyss she can find no way out of!
Such an excellent and easily read book, had me hooked from the first paragraph and I read it over two days! Congratulations Dreda, you smashed it again!!!
