This book is not my “normal” genre. It is a religious thriller with romantic tones. I almost want to say it is “romance with a consience!”
My Brother’s Keeper by Chris Calder is about Dominic Barratt, a man who was destined to become a Catholic priest from childhood, according to his mother. As time goes by, he and his superiors realise he is a dab hand at trouble shooting problems within the Clergy. Whenever there is an issue of any kind with any of the Priests, he is sent out to find a way to straighten these (little) things out! He is highly skilled at finding unconventional ways of solving issues. There is only one fly in the ointment, so to speak…Before he entered priesthood he had one love, Hazel, whom he sacrificed for his destiny. He battles with his emotions on a daily basis, but has always managed to shut them away to a degree, until the fateful day he discovers Hazel is way too close for comfort!

I have thoroughly enjoyed His Brother’s Keeper. Dominic is such a great character and I almost feel like I know him by the end of the book! The story is one that keeps you reading till you have to literally tear yourself away to do the mundane things in life. Well done Chris and I am looking forward to the second book in the series, can’t wait to see what’s next for Dominic!
