Jane Eddie – Black Blood

Black Blood by Jane Eddie is an engrossing thriller, set in Aberdeen, Scotland. It centres around the oil industry in the near future. The oil industry has had a downturn after Brexit and we see the effect this has on a town and its residents who mainly rely on the industry for income. This, in my mind, was a similar effect to the coal mines shutting and the cotton mills so the scene was set for me.

Jane Eddie

Danni who has escaped from an abusive partner and has been employed by Moskaneft, an oil company recently taken over by Russian owners. Although she is still scarred from the abusive relationship she has escaped, Danni still has the strength to question events that seem to be on the increase and makes the decision to find out for herself. Will this be a case of ‘curiosity killed the cat’? The closer she gets to the answer, the deeper the lies and deceit seem to be.

A really well-paced thrilling story showing us a side to the oil industry we would never imagine. The human-ness of the characters is great, everyone with their own little foibles, making for a great depth of character within the story. The intrigue of the Russian owners bring an interesting angle as well. Thank you to Anne Cater from Random Things Tours for allowing me to participate in the Black Blood Blog Tour.
