Faith Hogan – The Place We Call Home

‘The Place We Call Home’ by Faith Hogan is an intricate love story that spans generations. We are introduced to Ballycove in West Ireland and the Corrigan Mills that are successfully run by the Corrigans, a family were everyone and everything seem perfect. The only problem with the illusion of perfection is exactly that, an illusion.

Faith Hogan

We are taken back and forth, from present to past with Miranda in her younger years and using alternate chapters to go back to her adult life, we see just how the dice landed in Miranda and her children’s lives that ended up with the Corrigans running the mills after the Blair family had to sell up.

I feel it is a female character-driven story as the stronger people are the women and the son of Miranda, Simon is a weaker person, a gambler and taking more chances with bad outcomes. I leaned towards Miranda more than Ada, her daughter who was way too sensible for me and Callie is very similar in a way to Miranda in that she is a bit of a free spirit not unlike her mother.

I always love settling down with a good saga, I always enjoy spanning generations and time within a story. I feel I can get to know the characters to a depth that really makes the story for me. Faith Hogan has weaved a totally engaging story that whisked me away to the West of Ireland and I wish I could stay there. Thank you Books On The Bright Side for this lovely book for me to read and review for the blog tour today.
