‘Deadly Wishes’ by Rachel McLean is a new series with a female protagonist, DI Zoe Finch. We meet her fresh with the success of her last case, a corruption one, very much at the forefront of hers and her superiors minds. The Assistant Chief Constable Bryn Jackson even acknowledges her excellent work during his retirement party. Later the same night he is brutally murdered in his home, with his wife becoming suspect number one.

Zoe’s new boss takes over the case and sidelines Zoe to matters of much less importance. She has her doubts that he is investigating the case as he should, he seems adamant to lean towards ACC Jackson’s wife and Zoe is not so sure…could her new boss have any links to her old case? Zoe takes it upon herself to investigate.

I think Zoe Finch is an excellent character. She is outspoken, strong, ambitious and flawed as we all are in some way. She knows what she is up against in the Police force, she has to prove her worth twice as much as any male colleague, but she is up for it.
I loved the fact that Zoe knows she has a fight on her hands but never gives in, even when confronted with the fight of her life. A fantastic beginning to a new series that promises to be as gritty and real as it can be these days. Looking forward to the next Zoe outing. Thanks to Rachels Random Resources for the book and my spot today on the blog tour.
