S.R. Wilsher – Mint

‘Mint’ by S.R. Wilsher is a mystery/crime story that slowly draws you in and when it has you, it picks up the pace and before you know it you are at the end! Another author I haven’t read before. I am so lucky to be able to discover little gems such as this book on an almost daily basis. Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for having me on this tour and to S.R Wilsher for gifting me the copy of the book.

James ‘Mint’ Minter has arrived home to bury his mother after spending nine years at her ‘majesty’s leisure’, for killing his girlfriends brother. Mint, as he is generally known doesn’t believe that his mother committed suicide as per the ruling. He discovers her husband, a man who will stop at nothing, was attempting to make her sell her sewing shop to pay his debts to a very dodgy character. He makes it his mission to discover exactly what happened.

The story is told with a dual timeline and over alternating chapters, with various differing viewpoints, which allows us to see the broader picture and feel more involved. Although the story begins quite slowly, it is as I said, you are slowly pulled in to the plot and once the scene is set, you are so engrossed that you can’t put it down!

S.R. Wilsher has created a story that seems to be ‘just’ a crime/mystery but once you are settled into the book it is a lot more than that. Just the fact that everyone knows everything and everyone and there are still secrets and shocks to be had makes for a great read.

If you enjoy a story that lulls you into a false sense of security and can cope with a slower pace then this could be one to try.
