‘Gordon Square’ by Tracy Martin- Summers is a debut crime detective book so I had no clue what to expect upon picking up this book. Believe me, I had to tear myself away from it to get other things done!

We are introduced to D.S Mike Brugge and D.C Mel Bailey as they find a girl in the parkland in Gordon Square on a windy, cold November night. She is frail, malnourished and covered in excrement. Her fear is palpable to the point of empty eyes and cowering away from the light, like a frightened animal, who only expects abuse from everyone.
The two detectives begin investigating what could have happened to this poor girl and why does she seem so tortured. Revealing hypnosis sessions allow them to glimpse some of her pain and suffering. They are about to set out on a horrifying journey that will cause chaos and turmoil in their own lives along the way. One which spans four decades and one that has no plans to stop. Can D.S Brugge and D.C Bailey change its plans…or not?

Well, as I said I had no idea what to expect at all as I began this book. A riveting story ensued that was dark and twisted right from the start. The discovery of the girl leading into Mike and Mel’s investigation and the things that they find happening to them create such an intense read. The horrors of this case are so bad, but they keep on coming. I felt so sorry for them, but their fierce determination to get justice was crystal clear. The bond these two have is at the very epicentre of the story, along with their determination to solve this case.

Tracey Martin-Summers has created Mike and Mel brilliantly. I automatically warmed to these two. I would imagine the qualities in them are how a fair few of the police in our force would have. I am hoping we get another Mike and Mel book soon.
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Tracy Martin-Summers for the copy of the book for my honest review.
