‘Death of a Texan’ by Cat Hickey is book two of the Chloe Parsons series. I knew I would enjoy this story as I loved the first one. This is a book you can read without really needing to read the first but I always say if you want to really know the characters and fully enjoy it…read the first book too.

We see Chloe revelling in her new Costa Rican life. Her P.I job is off to a great start, things are going somewhere with Mateo, she really just wishes for cases that will test her grey matter a little more. Well, you know what they say about wishes? She is hired by Elena Vargus as she wants proof her husband is cheating.
Chloe gets a little more than she bargained for when she finds out he was cheating on her and has also been murdered! Chloe works to solve the case and the secrets begin to be revealed thick and fast. As she gets closer to the truth she begins to really feel the danger. Not only that, her personal life begins to unravel but she is determined to find the killer…will she manage it before she becomes the next victim?

Chloe definitely has plenty going in in this instalment; for herself personally and also professionally. A character I admire if only for her bloody-mindedness and skill to carry on with her investigation and unmask a killer. Both books one and two are cosy mysteries but I have found they have an edge to them both. One which brings a bit more darkness and suspense than just a run of the mill mystery, it is almost palpable at times.

This is something I enjoy with Cat Hickey’s work every time. You are almost part of the mystery as you feel like you could be with Chloe in gorgeous Costa Rica!
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Cat Hickey for the copy of the book.
