Helena Dixon – Murder at Midwinter Farm

Thanks to Bookouture Books for my gifted ebook to write my honest review.

A frosty country lane, snow-dusted Devon hills as far as the eye can see… and a local farmer vanished without trace. Can Kitty Underhay solve this chilling mystery?

Devon, 1937. Kitty Underhay is enjoying a crisp winter morning walk with her best friend, Alice, and her fiancé, Robert, who have recently bought the mysterious Midwinter Farm. The previous owner vanished one night, his dinner still on the table and the front door left wide open. But as work is carried out on the farm, a body is found in the grounds. How was the man murdered—and who is responsible?

Robert trusts the local police even less than Kitty does, so she is immediately on the case, with her husband Matt by her side. As the pair take the bull by the horns and begin to gather clues, several suspects emerge. Though he seems gentle as a lamb, is the victim’s son as innocent as he appears? Why does the local pub landlord have an axe to grind, and does his daughter seem suspicious?

The waters become muddied by a robbery, with valuable jewels stolen at neighbouring Seacliffe Hall. Is the thief also the murderer Kitty is looking for? Or are the two crimes entirely unconnected?

With the weak winter sun setting over the fields and danger mounting fast, Kitty and Matt need to find the killer, before they meet their own icy end in the dead of winter…

Fans of Agatha Christie, T.E. Kinsey or Verity Bright will adore this totally charming murder mystery. The perfect treat for cozy crime fans!

Helena Dixon is back again! This time with the 22nd book in the Miss Underhay Mystery series. I always know that any book by Helena Dixon will be an excellent read. Her books are on my auto-read list! I never check blurbs; I just go for it!

Another case for Kitty Underhay and her husband, Matt. This time it’s for her best friend and her fiancé. After buying Midwinter Farm, there is a discovery while some work is being done. A dead body is found. Is it the old owner who just disappeared one day, with his dinner on the table ? Could it be him? Was it natural causes, or did someone help him along? It’s down to Kitty and Matt to find out.

The suspect list grows as the story unfolds, and then there is a robbery too. Could this be connected in any way ? It becomes a race against time. Will they get to the bottom of everything before they themselves become victims?

I adore a Kitty Underhay book! Right from the first book I read, I was invested straight away . As the series has grown, the stories are just as fresh as the first books. I never get sick of returning to these characters. They are so lifelike I feel I am returning to old friends every time.

I love time traveling, and this time it’s back to 1937. The details are so vivid that I can see this setting in my mind’s eye as I read. This is another reason I am so obsessed with Helena Dixon’s writing.

A cosy mystery series that ticks every box for me! The fact that I am flipping those pages and not willing to put it down tells me enough!  A superb addition to the series! I always get so intrigued by the mysteries that need solving, and Murder at Midwinter Farm kept me glued to the book!
