But when a lone woman befriends the band of warriors, promising him even more than that, he’s beguiled by her tale of deceit amongst her own tribe, so reminiscent of his own.

The second book book in the Dark Age Chronicles, Warriors of Iron is set in Britain of AD541. I am a massive fan of MJ Porter. She weaves the most intricate and immersive stories. I have read so many of her books and always sung her praises from the rooftops! This is another that I will be gushing over!

I always love historical fiction and I have to say MJ Porter is at the top of my list! I haven’t read the first book yet in this series, so I was a little wary to jump in with this one. Luckily, for me, there is a recap, so I was able to enjoy this so much! 

Told from two perspectives we follow Meddi, a seeress and Waermund a warrior of Saxon descent. They are both facing their own battles while facing the same enemy. These characters are fully fleshed out as I expect from this author. They have their secrets, which humanises them so much more. Complex and layered, no wonder I get attached! 

Don’t expect a middle of the road tale. No, the brutality of this age is translated on the page superbly. I could almost taste the tang of blood and hear the weapons as the battle rages in front of my minds eye. Yet another entertaining and educational storyline! I will be going back to  the first book as soon as I can!

Author Bio

MJ Porter is the author of many historical novels set predominantly in Seventh to Eleventh-Century England, and in Viking Age Denmark. Raised in the shadow of a building that was believed to house the bones of long-dead Kings of Mercia, meant that the author’s writing destiny was set.
