Thanks to Bookouture Books and NetGalley for my gifted ebook to write my honest review for the tour.
Our first mistake was trusting him. Our second was underestimating how far we would both go to hide our own dark secrets…
THE WIFE: Before my husband died, we were the perfect couple. Or so I thought. When a woman claiming to have been his mistress shows up on my doorstep with a child she says is his, I know she must be lying. Who is she and what does she want?
THE MISTRESS: I don’t want to tell his widow the truth about the man she married. But if I don’t get what I need, everything will have to come out. And what I know has the power to destroy her life.
We have both done things we wouldn’t want anyone to ever know about. If anyone found out, it would be the end of us. But if she tells, I tell…
And someone will have to die before this is over…
An utterly addictive thriller that will have you gasping out loud! Perfect for fans of The Perfect Marriage, The Wife Between Us and The Wives.

Ellie Monago is a brand new author for me, so I didn’t know what to expect. The Secret Mistress sounded like a thriller that I would enjoy, so I went for it. I am really glad I did.
Maren has a shock after she finds out that her deceased husband had a longstanding affair with Jade and had even fathered a child, Tai. She finds herself torn between the hatred for the mistress and how she feels about Tai. It soon becomes clear that both women have their own agenda, and both have secrets to keep.
Told from multiple perspectives, so I got to know what each of the women thought and what they had planned. I do love this kind of story because I get a fuller picture. The tension was almost unbearable for me. Ellie Monago does know how to keep the reader gripped with anticipation. As the story develops, the secrets become darker, and the twists just made me keep reading!
These women are willing to go to some lengths to get what they want, and I was along for the rollercoaster of a ride with them. It’s almost like watching a film behind a cushion and peeping for the best bits. I did wonder how this was going to end.
A decidedly dark and shocking tale that kept me absolutely immersed from start to finish.

About the author
Ellie Monago is the pen name of an acclaimed novelist and practicing therapist. She’s also a wife and mother, and when you add it all up, she doesn’t wind up with much time for hobbies. But she’s an avid tennis fan, a passionate reader of both fiction and nonfiction—especially memoir (nothing’s as juicy as the truth!)—and she relishes a good craft cocktail.
