Tam Barnett – How To Get Away With Murder

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the gifted ebook. This is my honest review.

A delightfully twisty and darkly comic crime thriller, for fans of My Sister, the Serial Killer and How to Kill Your Family.

I’m obsessed with true crime. All the podcasts, the documentaries… I can’t get enough.

And now there’s a murderer on the loose where I live. What a rush!

Of course, some people might wonder if it’s me. Am I an innocent soul with an unhealthy fascination, or a deadly psychopath?

It’s the killer question. After all, I would love to know how to get away with murder…

Tam Barnett’s debut novel is perfect for readers of Katy Brent, CJ Skuse or Bella Mackie.

I saw the cover of How To Get Away With Murder, then read the blurb. I couldn’t wait to sit down with something a little different. I was looking forward to an intriguing read.

Told from the persepctive if Kelli, a journalist who is obsessed with true crime documentaries and serial killers. After she actually caught a serial killer 6 years ago she found her spotlight. Now, there is a murder close to where she lives, and Kelli can see her spotlight again!

A debut from Tam Barnett, which is so cleverly wicked. Packed full of dark humour and an unreliable narrator, which kept me on my toes. I didn’t really warm to Kelli, but I DID want to know what was going to go down. She is one of those characters that makes you want to have a front seat at her car crash.

The fact that as the story unfolds, there are a lot of details of serial killers and the crimes they committed. This author must be a walking encyclopedia of serial killers and crimes! His research has to have been so painstaking to know all these facts. I really appreciate those details.

Fast-paced and with small chapters that make the reader want to keep on reading until they fall asleep or get ransomed to do something else! It was also fab to have the book set in the North-West. Shame, it wasn’t Manchester! It was still so good, though. Being from the North-West, I get a thrill when I read a book set only about 1 hour away from me.

Clever, very twisty and an ending I wasn’t expecting. How To Get Away With Murder is a debut I recommend for anyone who wants a dark, witty, and suspenseful read.
