Historical fiction told in a truly fascinating and immersive way. I was thrilled to be back with Harald. It’s now 1038 AD, and we see him become the commander of the Varangian guard. The wielder of the Emporer’s axe.
The way J.C. Duncan wrote transported me back to those times. His vivid storytelling enthralled me from the start. In fact, it’s been a fabulous series and one which I am almost addicted to reading. His research brings everything to life.
The bloody battles, the action it all just never stop. His characters are so well developed that I feel I could see them as I read. The worldbuilding is top-notch. This had me so intrigued on what direction it was going to go in I was just glued to my Kindle. I always appreciate being educated while also entertained, and this series does that in such a great way. Another cracking read from an author who can breathe life into history.
