A local gossip is about to get her just desserts!
Life at Hopgood Hall is never boring, but Alexi Ellis hopes that there will be no more murders for the time being – she’s solved four already and is getting a reputation in the local area for being bad luck.
So when local gossip Polly Pearson arrives at Hopgood hall, Alexi knows this can only mean bad news. Polly has made it clear that she dislikes Alexi, and has campaigned for her to leave Hopgood Hall forever – so what could Polly want?
Then Polly reveals that her partner, Gerry has been found murdered in her B&B and that she is the main suspect! Alexi, her partner Jack and Cosmo the cat are all left speechless. More so when Polly begs Alexi for help improving her innocence.
But Alexi isn’t sure she wants to help this spiteful gossip. Is she really innocent or as deadly as the police believe her to be?

Yet another instalment in the Hopwood Hall murder mystery series. Deadly Affair is the fifth book, and I am still loving the series.
EV Hunter draws me in with whichever genre she has chosen to publish at the time. This is a great cosy mystery, and I so enjoy returning to these characters time and time again.
Set in Lamborn, a horse racing town and revolving around Alexi, Jack, and a cat, Cosmo, who has a knack of being able to read people! This is a series that is written in a way to make each book a viable standalone. What I say is don’t miss out on anything from this series!
The owner of the B&B in the town, Polly, is no friend of Alexi. She has spent her time basically besmirching Alexi in any way possible. So, when she approaches with a request, it seems like the world has turned upside down.
As more and more suspects rise to the surface, Alexi and Jack feel like they will never get to the truth. It seems to take a darker turn than they are comfortable with the further they dig. Will they manage to find the culprit?
This author is a master storyteller, and the more I read, the more confident I become with my statement. The plot is superb, and the characters are so well created, especially now five books in. I always feel like I’m back with friends when I pick up a book from this series.
Part of my enjoyment with this genre is attempting to find out ‘who dunnit’. I was stumped. Even when the culprit was discovered, I had no clue. I find with this series especially that I want to read as much as I can because I am itching to get to the bottom of it all! The pages flew by at some speed. The suspense keeps me on my toes, Cosmo gives me a good chuckle, and I just love the way I am invested these books. I am looking forward to the next book.
