My Review

Rosie Clarke is an author whose books I will always want to read. I have read a number of them already, so when I was invited to read this one, I wasn’t planning to refuse!

I didn’t even realise Louise’s War was part of a trilogy, and I hadn’t read the first book.  Saying that, this one read so well as a standalone. I always have a FOMO (fear of missing out) if I haven’t read every book in a series, so I will end up reading the first book at some point.

As always, Rosie Clarke has spun a tale so well. This is set in the First World War, and we are introduced to Louise and Jack. Two people who, to all intents and purposes, shouldn’t be together, especially when the German army and the French Resistance are involved.

I did appreciate the difference from the sagas I usually read by this author. Although different in some ways, it is no less entertaining. The way her characters are just as well developed as the other books I have previously read. The settings are as high a standard, too.

The battle Jack and Louise faced with their love had me gripped. Class and war are prevalent in who ‘should’ love who. They transcended them all in their determination. I was hoping with every fibre of my being that everything worked out. That is the magic that Rosie Clarke weaves with her stories.
