Anna Legat – Death On The High Seas

Hey! I’m back on the blog with my stop for the tour for Anna Legat’s latest book. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Anna Legat for my gifted copy of the book and my place on the tour.

Maggie and Sam take a break from the murder and mayhem of Bishops Well and embark on a relaxing mid-winter cruise across the northern seas. The brochure promises smooth sailing, good food and dazzling entertainment. Sam is hoping to sprinkle the mix with romance.

But nothing goes to plan.

Maggie runs into an old lover, the mesmerising Benedict Rawbotham, who goes out of his way to sweep her off her feet. Sam is left seething with jealousy.

A mayday signal sent by a fishing boat forces the cruise liner off course. But there is something fishy about the rescued crew and Maggie insists that two young women have died on that boat. Alas, no one believes her.

Soon one of the alleged fishermen is also dead and so is one of the cruise passengers. Cordelia Conti Lang, nicknamed the Bitcoin Queen, with links to London’s criminal underworld, is found in her cabin, stabbed to death.

In pursuit of the killer, Maggie hurtles from one disaster to another and Sam begins to fear for her life. Has he taken her on a cruise to hell?

The latest book in The Shires Mysteries,  Death On The High Seas, is one I was looking forward to reading. Anna Legat is one author whose books I thoroughly enjoy.

We are introduced to Maggie and Sam, partners in business, neighbours, and friends as well. They are having a well-deserved break on a cruise. Sam isn’t a million miles away from hoping that romance may be able to bloom. What he least expects is Maggie’s ex to be onboard, causing Sam to feel the green eyed monster creeping up on him. The events quickly unfold, and before we know it, Sam is attempting to keep Maggie safe while they investigate murder onboard their holiday cruise ship.

This is an excellently written cosy mystery from a highly talented storyteller. I was entertained from the first page. I sat down to read with only fifteen minutes spare. I wasn’t to realise I would be so interested in the story that I would have to tear myself away from my Kindle! It’s a mystery that doesn’t just bring tension, but the humour, too.

Anna Legat has created her characters so well, too. They are so vivid that they could be real. I felt like I was on the ship with Maggie and Sam. The scene setting was detailed enough for me to visualise it as the story played out. The fact that Maggie sees dead people too made this even more of an intriguing tale for me.

If you, like me, enjoy a great cosy mystery with a little twist. I definitely recommend this series of Anna Legat’s books.
