Ceri Houlbrook – Winter’s Wishfall

I’m over the moon to bring you my review for Winter’s Wishfall today. Thanks to Tracy Fenton from Compulsive Readers Book Tours for the gifted ebook to write my honest review.

She’s making a list and checking it twice…

Would you sign a job contract without knowing where your decision would lead you? Well, that’s what Ellie does…

Recently jobless, boyfriend-less, and out of a home to boot just before Christmastime, when a very mysterious job proposition with an NDA comes her way from an unusual sibling duo – she says yes.

After all, she has nothing left to lose, right?

Arriving on a tiny Scottish island which doesn’t appear on any maps, we follow her down the rabbit-hole as she begins to help archiving mysterious letters to Father Christmas with wishes in every language from across the world.

Despite the strangeness of it all, Ellie quickly falls in love with the island and her life there with fellow archiver Aiden and her employers: the eclectic baker Clementine and her rather dour brother Cole, who seems to blow hot and cold with her.

But ultimately, Ellie wants to know why she’s there and what secrets are held on this island. And who will answer these letters?

For the first time in her life, she’s deciding to be ‘unboring’ and to take things into her own hands…

With just a few days to go before Christmas, an apparently chance meeting with a stranger makes Ellie question everything, and she has just one chance to bring about her own Christmas miracle…

This is a sweet mystery to unravel, with touches of magical realism and mythology inspired by Ceri’s academic background, as well as a blossoming romance, of course.

We’ll publish in October 2023, with enough time for all of us to write our own letters to Father Christmas!

It’s a story that’s steeped in magic, fantasy, Christmas, and romance, too! What more could I ask for? Winter’s Wishfall is a book that I fell in love with the second I saw the cover. The blurb just put a cherry on top.

I have found a love for fantasy over the last few years, and the one thing I wasn’t really expecting with this book was fantasy. It made this book go so fast because I was immersed in the world building of this magical festive land.

Ellie loses everything and successfully applies for a job to archive documents. What she doesn’t realise is that this job may not be as simple as she thinks. I won’t say too much about the story, but I adored this book!

With characters you can believe in and a dash of romance. This is a book I was captivated by. I read it so quickly that I felt like I didn’t want to leave Ellie and Aiden. Winter’s Wishfall will have you feeling so cosy and festive, and I bet you can’t resist the magical fantasy that this author creates!
