R.J. Gould – The American Woman

I’m so pleased to be part of the blog tour for The American Woman by R.J. Gould. With many thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and the author for the copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

The American Woman: a story of hope, disappointment and new beginnings

When it’s impossible to forget is it possible to forgive?

Jennifer is stuck doing dead end waitressing jobs, her naïve dream of Hollywood stardom in tatters. Gareth, an IT consultant on a temporary contract, is the unlikely customer at Giulio’s Diner in the downbeat part of Los Angeles where she is now working.

It shouldn’t be a perfect match, the attractive, outgoing waitress from Idaho and the shy, good looker from Wales, but when it comes to relationships nothing is predictable, is it?

They move from state to state and when Gareth’s work in America dries up Jennifer follows him to Britain. Everything changes. What is she supposed to do when she discovers that she’s been fed a pack of lies?

Now living alone in Muswell Hill, Jennifer is a regular at the popular Dream Café with a great job and a lovely set of friends, but it’s impossible to cast aside the wonderful memories of her time together with Gareth.

Were his lies justified? Are they forgivable? And most importantly, should she be giving Gareth the second chance he so desperately wants?

[This is a stand-alone novel in the ‘at the Dream Café’ series]

The third book is from The Dream Café series. I have been fortunate enough to read both of the previous books, so I was looking forward to finding out what was in store for everyone in this book.

Although I have read every book, it is possible to read each book as a standalone. When an R.J. Gould book is released, I know I need to read it. His skill of storytelling is great. I always enjoy going back to The Dream Café world and meeting the new characters he has created.

Jennifer is an American who moved to the U.K. to discover her boyfriend has fed her a pack of lies. She is a regular at the Dream Café now, with a great job and such good friends. Gareth, her ex, still lingers in her memories. Jennifer wonders if she should give him a second chance or if his lies are unjustifiable?

This particular instalment of the Dream Café takes the reader on a journey through countries and time. Told from the past and the present day, it made me want to know everything about Jennifer and Gareth. I was curious as to whether Jennifer would give in and give him another chance.

As I found with his other books, the pages flew by as I got to know these new characters. Jennifer’s past was so interesting to read about. I was with her all the way. I was invested in her, and I could feel everything she was experiencing. R.J. Gould can create characters that tug on my heartstrings. I always have this when I read one of his books.

A book and series I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys well written contemporary romance.

  1. Hi Sharon. A huge thank you for taking the time to read and review ‘The American Woman’, my new novel. It is an honour (honor!) to have you following the ‘at the Dream Cafe’ series and I’m delighted that you are enjoying them as much as I enjoy writing the stories. I’m not quite sure how I ended up writing a novel from an American female’s point of view – it just seemed to fit!
