Kathryn Croft – The Wedding Guest

Yet again, I am back! This time with my review for The Wedding Guest by Kathryn Croft. Thanks to Bookouture for the gifted ebook to write my honest review.

I’m lying to the man I’m about to marry. I’m not the woman he thinks I am. But my secret’s safe. Isn’t it?

I feel like the perfect bride as I drift across the beach towards my handsome new husband, the sand warm between my toes, my ivory slip wedding dress showing off my suntan. Today is the beginning of my new life. My dark past can no longer touch me.

When I reach my husband, we kiss against the perfect backdrop of the shimmering turquoise sea. The congregation clap and I turn to smile at them.

Then my smile freezes. I see him. Sitting there amongst my loved ones. An uninvited guest who knows the truth about me and the terrible thing that happened ten years ago. The man who won’t ever let me be happy.

And as he steps forward, asking for everyone’s attention, my legs buckle. I know he wants to destroy my perfect new life.

But how can I stop someone who will never let me go? And how far will I go to keep my secrets?

Kathryn Croft has written a number of psychological thrillers, and I have read some of them. The Wedding Guest looked right up my twisty street, so I knew I wanted to read it. It has been a while since I have read anything by Kathryn and was just hoping her writing was of the same high quality as previous books I have read by her.

Emily’s happiest day of her life is finally here! Her wedding day, in the beautiful setting of Kefalonia, Greece. She can’t wait to be married to Jeremy and become his daughter, Lexi’s step-mum. Then she sees he ex-boyfriend, Christian. He isn’t invited, but that hasnt stopped him. Just as she thought her life was perfect, she realises Christian can blow it all apart. Can she stop him?

Told from both past and present, the story unfolds. We are drip fed titbits from the past that slowly unfurl themselves to hint at the secrets between Emily and Christian. Am amazingly shocking, twisty, and thrilling psychological thriller. I thought that the interweaving of the timelines added so much suspense and tension. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough for my curiosity.

Kathryn Croft has created characters that intrigued me. They were well rounded, and I could feel Emily’s desperation as she first saw Christian. My own heart was pounding for her! The conclusion was an absolute belter! I was not expecting that at all!
